How To Chose Baby Furniture

Yes it's that time again - choosing baby furniture is not for the faint hearted. Everyone had an opinion about what should and should not be in your nursery. My advice is, just ignore them and go with your gut feelings.

One of the most exciting events in any family is the news that a baby is on the way. Many questions and lots of preparation follow that excitement. One task that moms to be usually enjoy is creating a nursery for the baby. Completing that nursery requires selecting crib bedding, baby furniture and accessories which sometimes causes another round of questions. The main question being what pieces of furniture are necessary for the nursery.

Once your baby is too big for a bassinet, a crib will be needed, so purchasing one before the baby arrives is not absolutely necessary, but is a good idea. It will then be ready when you need it.

A nursery is of course a bedroom for your new baby, so it should go without saying that some sort of bed is needed. Many parents prefer to use a bassinet or something similar like a Moses basket for their newborn baby. The main advantage being that these are very portable and can be placed in any room in the home allowing the baby to be near mom at all times.

There are several different styles of cribs available today, including the standard rectangular shaped crib and round or oval cribs. If you choose a crib that is not the standard rectangular shape, be aware that you will also need special sized bedding for the crib.

While a high chair will not be used until your baby is sitting alone, you may want to go ahead and purchase it now as well. Speaking of chairs, don't forget to provide a comfortable place for you to sit in the nursery. You will be glad it's there for those middle of the night feedings.

A changing table is another furniture piece that many parents choose to purchase. While it is not a necessity it does make changing time easier on you. A dresser that can be used as a changing table will takes care of storage as well as serving as a place to change diapers and clothing.
